Tesamorelin 5 mg vial: water, concentration and units

A 5 mg Tesamorelin vial with 2 mL of water is 2.5 mg/mL, so one unit on a U-100 syringe holds 25 mcg and 10 units hold 250 mcg.

Other water volumes and syringes are below. Unit conversion only.

The math for this vial

  1. Concentration: 5 mg ÷ 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL (2,500 mcg/mL).
  2. Volume of one U-100 unit: 1 ÷ 100 = 0.01 mL.
  3. Mass in one unit: 2,500 mcg/mL × 0.01 mL = 25 mcg.
  4. The whole vial is 200 U-100 units of solution, more than one 1 mL syringe holds.

On a U-40 syringe each unit is 0.025 mL, so each unit holds 2.5 times as much: 62.5 mcg at 2 mL. See U-100 vs U-40 units.

About this vial size

5 mg is a mid-size Tesamorelin vial. Across the water volumes above, one U-100 unit holds between 25 mcg (at 2 mL) and 50 mcg (at 1 mL). Compared with a 2 mg vial at the same water volume, it is 2.5 times as concentrated, so the same mass takes 0.4 times the units. A 10 mg vial at the same water volume is 2 times as concentrated as this one.

The approved Egrifta SV is a 2 mg lyophilized vial reconstituted with sterile water supplied in the pack, per its prescribing information. That labeling applies to Theratechnologies' formulation only.

Storage and handling

  • Egrifta SV's prescribing information calls for use immediately after reconstitution and discarding unused solution. Research material has no stability data of its own.
  • General practice for anything kept after mixing: refrigerate (2-8 °C), avoid freezing, protect from light, label.

Tesamorelin is FDA-approved as Egrifta for one specific use. "Research" tesamorelin is not that product, and FDA's August 2026 warning letters named it.

Tesamorelin 5 mg vial questions

How much water goes in a 5 mg Tesamorelin vial?

Any volume works; water only sets the concentration. 1 mL gives 5 mg/mL, 2 mL gives 2.5 mg/mL. Less water packs more mass into each syringe unit (harder to read precisely); more water spreads it out.

How many mcg are in one unit of a 5 mg vial?

On a U-100 syringe, one unit is 0.01 mL. With 1 mL of water, one unit holds 50 mcg; With 2 mL of water, one unit holds 25 mcg.

How many units is 1 mg from a 5 mg vial?

At 1 mL of water, 1 mg is 20 units (0.2 mL). At 2 mL of water, 1 mg is 40 units (0.4 mL). This is a unit conversion, not an amount to use.
